Pain management is a growing medical specialty dedicated to treating acute, subacute, and chronic pain. The goal of pain medicine is to improve quality of life and help patients return to everyday activities without surgery.
EFW uses a team approach to treat different types of spine- and joint-related pain. We work with your referring physician — and physical and occupational therapists — to provide high-quality, effective pain care.
Patients will be contacted within 5-8 business days to schedule their appointment.
How Do I Prepare for My Exam?
Please be aware you cannot have ANY vaccination either 2 weeks before of 2 weeks after your cortisone injection. Please call (403) 244-3700 to speak with a booking agent.
Preparation instructions will vary depending on the type of treatment you need, but there are no diet restrictions. You will receive detailed instructions prior to your appointment.
Pain Medications
Please do not stop any pain medication that has been prescribed by your doctor without consulting him or her first.
Please reduce any pain medication (Advil, Tylenol, etc.) the day of your appointment, so that you have enough discomfort (but not extreme) to determine if your procedure has been effective in relieving your symptoms. If you are in pain despite your medications, you do not need to decrease them.
Transportation
If you are having a procedure involving the spine, neck, SI joints, or muscle blocks, we ask that you make arrangements for transportation. You will not be able to drive after your procedure for the rest of the day. Your appointment will be rebooked if you do not have a driver.
If you are having a procedure involving: Lumbar Facet Injections, Lumbar Facet Prolotherapy, Thoracic Facet Prolotheraphy, Thoracic Facet Injections, or Pars Block Injections, a driver is not required.
Antibiotics
Please note that we will not be able to continue with your procedure if you have an active infection or are on antibiotics. The medication (cortisone) we use will reduce the effectiveness of the antibiotics. If you are on antibiotics, please call our booking line at (403)-244-3700 and press 2 to reschedule your appointment.
Botox® & Hyaluronic Products
If your physician has recommended Botox®, a prescription will be required. Your Botox® prescription must be filled at a pharmacy prior to your appointment and transported to the clinic in a cooler with ice to maintain proper storage conditions.1
For your convenience, hyaluronic products, such as Synvisc®, Durolane®, Monovisc®/Orthovisc®, Cingal®, Synolis®, or Sportvis®, are available for purchase through EFW Radiology.2
